Hypnotherapy for Fear of Flying is the second most common phobia we deal with (behind fear of public speaking/ presenting) at Assured Effects Hypnotherapy in Dorchester. It is not the most common phobia in the UK (dogs, spiders, and social phobias score higher!) but it is often one that people need to confront if they have a need to go abroad for business or pleasure.
Fear of flying has some wonderful scientific names: aerophobia, aviatophobia, aviophobia, or pteromechanophobia! It is estimated that 20-40% of the UK population experience mild to high levels of anxiety whilst flying.
The definition of a phobia is that the fear is irrational and inappropriate. Fear of flying is a highly exaggerated reaction to a perceived threat or danger. When our body feels under threat (perceived or real) adrenaline is produced and we enter in fight or flight mode (no pun intended!). However, suffering a phobic reaction despite being upsetting, is also embarrassing. It is often this embarrassment factor that becomes the most powerful thing – the fear of the fearful reaction and losing control.

Thank you, thank you, thank you …I had a great trip over to Oz and Hong Kong airport was a breeze, went for a wander and had a couple of glasses of shiraz. Landed on Wednesday morning showered and came into the office.. and so far no jet lag. I am so calm about things that I am off into Adelaide both Saturday and Sunday on sightseeing tours.. booked a flight to Sydney next weekend to do some more sights ON MY OWN which I would never have done without your help.
